📚 Welcome to the SLLC! – Back-to-School Library Introduction Slides
Welcome students into the School Library Learning Commons with this warm, engaging back-to-school presentation! Designed to help students understand what the SLLC is, how they can use the space, and how to care for the library, this resource creates a positive first impression while encouraging reading, curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and belonging. Students are introduced to the SLLC as a place to read, wonder, create, share, borrow books, research, use technology, and work together.
The presentation also reviews simple library expectations such as using clean hands, handling books gently, keeping food and drinks away, and returning books in good condition. The deck then moves into fun “This or That?” and “Which Would You Prefer?” discussion slides featuring choices about reading, books, food, makerspace activities, audiobooks, read-alouds, mysteries, adventures, and more. These low-pressure prompts are perfect for building classroom community and getting to know students’ interests while encouraging speaking, listening, and sharing. Students also explore their own “reader self” by thinking about whether they see themselves as an adventure explorer, animal lover, fact finder, or picture book fan.
The presentation finishes with a welcoming SLLC message and an exit ticket that invites students to share what they are most excited to do in the library this year. Perfect for the first library visit, back-to-school week, library orientation, primary and junior classes, or introducing a School Library Learning Commons. Students will explore: what the SLLC is • library expectations • reading preferences • makerspace and technology opportunities • collaboration • student voice • reader identity • classroom community • excitement for the year ahead.
